Further information about everything Ner Tamid offers is found throughout this Web site, but here's an overview of what our synagogue provides in terms of services, educational opportunities and programming:
Services & Ritual Gatherings
- Bi-Monthly Traditional Shabbat Service with Jr. Congregation Everyone begins opening prayers together in our sanctuary. School aged children (7 and over) then follow our leaders into the community area for Jr. Congregation - a special time for peers to come together to focus on learning Hebrew prayers – while adults and small children remain in the sanctuary for the service. The evening concludes with everyone coming back together for closing prayers, then we all kibitz together at the dessert oneg.
- Monthly Shabbat Learning Service with Tot Shabbat Whether you were raised in an observant family, are furthering your understanding of Judaism as an adult, or want to gain a better understanding of your spouse's faith, you will find great value in Ner Tamid's new Learning Service. We set the stage of comfort with a social "pre-oneg" at 6pm with heavy finger foods, then join together in a circle in the community room, forgoing the formality of pews and the sanctuary. This creates a close environment, conducive for interaction. After opening prayers, tots head off to Tot Shabbat in a separate room (parents are welcome to join them or remain at the learning service.) Each service focuses on furthering your understanding of one or two elements of a Shabbat service. We then have a Torah service and interactive sermon based on the week's Torah portion. The service concludes with the standard closing prayers but the learning continues at home with ideas for practicing Judaism at home provided via handout.
- Erev of Rosh Hashanah, first day Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, and Yom Kippur services lead by Rabbi Liebschutz
- Various other holiday services and celebrations such as Simchat Torah, Havdalah, Sukkot and Passover Seder.
- A complimentary CD recording by our Rabbis of one of our service to help familarize your family with our songs and prayers.
